Andrea Grooms,

Hiring and Scheduling Coordinator

Andrea Grooms, Avila’s Hiring and Scheduling Coordinator in Carroll County, brings over 35 years of experience to the Avila Home Care family.

As a young girl, Andrea visited nursing homes and home-bound seniors with her mother and younger sister, which inspired in her a love for the elderly and people with special needs. “I discovered at a young age that seniors are the world’s best kept secret! They have so much to offer- life experiences to share and stories to tell that we can all learn from.”

Andrea began her professional career working as a Medical Assistant (MA) in Howard County in the 1980’s for a primary care and internal medicine practice. She got married and moved to Carroll County in 1990, was trained in hospice care, and began volunteering with hospice patients. While raising her two children, she worked with the Arc of Carroll County, followed by Carroll Hospital, where she helped launch the Center for Breast Health. Andrea also earned her phlebotomy certification while at Carroll Hospital, and worked in the lab there, and also as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).

Andrea joined Avila Home Care from Maryland Perinatal Associates, where she was working as a CMA. “I learned that the foundational principles of Avila aligned perfectly with my faith and beliefs- treating the elderly with respect, and supporting the desire of our clients and their loved ones to stay in their own homes as long as possible.”

It has been Andrea’s experience that a person’s circle of relationships often becomes smaller as one ages. She reflects, “It is an honor and a privilege to be invited into that circle, and to walk that journey with a client and their loved ones.”

As Andrea’s own parents age, she finds comfort in knowing that a wonderful organization such as Avila will be there when the time comes for her family to need extra support.

Andrea loves spending time with her family, including her husband Dale, and their two grown children- son Cody, and daughter Chelsie and her new husband Ben. Andrea’s parents recently moved close by, which has been a blessing. Andrea has sung on praise teams, at weddings and funerals for many years. She enjoys walking her dog, Gracie Lou Freebush, as well as long walks along the beach and collecting sea glass. She likes reading Christian suspense novels, painting and crafting. Andrea’s favorite beverage is hot Earl Grey tea with steamed milk and her secret obsession is Wockenfuss Chocolate!
