Maryland Department of Aging Offers a Free Telephonic Service to Check on Maryland Seniors
Maryland is the very first state in the country to offer a free telephonic service to check on the older population all across the state. This opt-in telephone service, Senior Call Check, ensures our state’s beloved seniors are regularly checked in on so they can stay safe and their loved ones can have peace of mind. Here, the home care specialists at Avila Home Care provide a brief overview of the Senior Call Check program and the benefits to seniors and their families all across the state of Maryland.
Daily Telephone Calls to Maryland Seniors Help Ensure Their Safety During COVID-19
The Senior Call Check works by placing a phone call every day to a senior participating in the program. These calls will come at a regularly scheduled time between 8 am and 4 pm in the one-hour time block selected by the participant. If the participant misses their first call, the service will call them two more times. If the additional calls are not answered by the participant, the program will place a call to a loved one or neighbor of the participant to check on the senior as well. If the senior’s alternate contact also fails to reach them, local non-emergency services will be notified.
The Maryland Department of Aging recommends every senior in the state use the program as a resource during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure their safety and health are kept a priority. Any Maryland resident who is 65 years of age or older who has a landline phone or cell phone is eligible to enroll in the program, and Senior Call Check phone lines are open Monday-Friday from 8 am-5 pm and Saturday from 9 am-3 pm.
